PRIJON

Toni Prijon Sr. founded Prijon in 1962. He was a world champion for the German whitewater (wildwasser) team.  He started manufacturing Blowmolded Kayaks in the Early 1980’s, combining the performance of composite boats with the most durable kayak hull material in the world.  Prijon Kayaks are the largest Extruded and Blowmolded product in the world.  Currently run by Toni Prijon Jr., he too is team paddler for the German whitewater team, along with his wife and brother.

Extrusion and Blowmolding- Ultra High Density (UHMW) plastic pellets are compressed in an extruder until the pellets turn into taffy-like. The molecules combined by compression are then forced through a die to form a tube. It looks like toothpaste being squeezed out. Rather than layed into a mold flat, the mold of the HTP product is verticle.  A two-part mold is clamped over the tube. The tube is then pierced at the cockpit and blown up like a balloon against the mold. High-pressure air compresses the plastic making it thinner and more dense. When the mold is complete, cold water is run through the mold, setting the shape of the hull under compression. Mold costs are very high, which limits the number of models and colors. This process makes Prijon the most durable plastic kayak on the market. Because the kayak is rigid, it makes it also more efficient and stable in form and shape, thereby it will not warp or get wavy. Why aren't all plastic boats made this way? Good question. Other manufacturers spit out the boats in quantity. Quality takes time and costs more. Simply put, Prijon would be the last plastic boat you would buy, but then that's German Engineering for you.

WARRANTY

All Prijon HTP kayak hulls are warranted against defects in materials and manufacturing for a period of five years from the date of purchase.  This warranty covers only fractures of the hull and does not cover abrasion damage, creases, bends or punctures.  Components and fastening hardware are warranted against defects in materials and manufacturing for a period of one year from the date of purchase.

Maximum Stability - Unmatched Tracking and Carving - Superior Speed

How best to spend your money depends on you, but think of this... Most beginner kayaks on the market are just that, only for beginners. It takes about 20 days of paddling and you've outgrown that boat. If you wish to grow into your kayaking experience, you must go buy another boat. Prijon has engineered it's kayaks for the novice in mind to be stable, yet added the features and designs necessary to give you an experienced kayakers boat when you need it. bottom line is you save money in the long run by not having to purchase another boat.

How do they do it? Prijon's Trihedral Hull design has three surfaces.  The flat bottom section provides maximum stability and unmatched tracking.  Loading the kayak with gear increases stability and tracking.  The angled sides maximize final stability and increase your ability to carve a turn. Comfortably carving turns in a touring kayak is a unique feature of the Trihedral Hull design.  Prijon's Trihedral Hull allows a beginner to use a boat that carves like boats too tippy for most paddlers.  The flat center panel will help you have the confidence to use the edges, or chines, to let the hull do the work of turning for you.  Another feature unique to trihedral hulls is having hard chines inside of your body weight.  As you sit in your boat you will see them between your knees. If you lean right you will engage the chine curved to the left.  Think of carving as bending your boat.  Happy Kayaking!

KODIAK

In a few short years, the Kodiak has proven itself to be the ultimate Expedition Kayak. Not resting, in the winter 05/06 we updated the Kodiak to make it an even better boat. We have added our functional Deck Box for on water gear access. Its knee area was expanded slightly to accommodate a wider range of paddler frames. Deck Fittings were updated to bring the highest level of function and convenience. These include a new spare paddle hold down, and our combination deck- net paddle float self resecue holder. Its capabilities for expeditions make it practical in nearly all others. It is cavernous in terms of gear storage and ultimate capacity, it is also a fast stable boat both loaded and unloaded. At 17', the Kodiak features a trihedral hull & convex waterlines similar to racing kayaks. Its fish-form puts the wide point at the knees instead of the hips to make the boat controllable and comfortable in following seas. The Kodiak's profile is nearly unaffected in most wind conditions. The slender width in the stern chine ensures superior water release.

During 2005 and 2006 Renata Chlumska became the first person to perform a challenge called "Around America Adventure" by circumnavigating around the USA (lower 48 states).  She paddled a Prijon kayak from Seattle to San Diego, bicycled with the kayak on a carriage from San Diego to Brownsville, Texas, and continued kayaking around Florida to Eastport, Maine, and finally bicycled back to Seattle.
This incredible woman put into the Pacific in Seattle on July 4th, 2005. She paddled down the coast, pulling her Prijon kayak out of the water in San Diego, and putting it on a trailer to pull it behind her bicycle. Then she pedaled across the Southwest, and put back in at the Rio Grande River. She spent a short time mixing up biking and kayaking throughout the hurricane-stricken Southeast, and then paddled south around Florida, thru the Keys, and finally up the East Coast.
