Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any experience to start?

No. You should be a comfortable swimmer, but our instructors take complete beginners through every step. Discover SCUBA is a good first experience if you are unsure about committing to the full course.

How long does Open Water certification take?

The traditional book-based course takes about five days. The eLearning path takes three to four days after you complete its knowledge work.

Where do the certification dives happen?

Pool training comes first, followed by four open-water dives at Blue Grotto or Devil's Den.

What's included in the price?

The Open Water course includes tanks, weights, instruction materials, a trained instructor, your certification card, and park fees. You bring your own properly fitted mask, fins, and snorkel. The offer cards above identify the inclusions for Discover SCUBA and Referral training.

I started my training somewhere else. Can I finish here?

Yes. Open Water Referral lets you complete four checkout dives with us after you have completed the knowledge and confined-water portions elsewhere.

Can I get certified on my own schedule?

Yes. We specialize in small private courses. Call the dive team with your available dates so they can arrange the course around you.

Can Veterans use the GI Bill® for certification?

Eligible Veterans, active-duty service members, and qualified survivors or dependents may seek reimbursement for approved NAUI certification and license exam fees through qualifying GI Bill® benefits. Crystal River Kayak Company is the only nearby NAUI VA Testing Center and donates up to $250 in new equipment to customers who use its NAUI Veterans program. Review the GI Bill® training pathway and call before enrolling.

How do I schedule a course?

Call (352) 795-2255 or send an inquiry through the Contact page to discuss the right path and arrange your dates.
