Frequently Asked Questions

Why are there Manatee Swim and Eco Swim tour names?

The seasonal focus changes throughout the year. Choose the Manatee Swim Tour for dates from November 15 through March 31 and the Eco Swim Tour for dates from April 1 through November 14. Both are guided paddle-and-swim experiences at Three Sisters Springs.

Will I definitely see a manatee?

No. Winter manatee season provides the strongest opportunity because large numbers gather in the warm springs, but manatees are wild animals and every encounter happens on their terms.

How much does the tour cost and how long does it take?

Each tour costs $83 per person and takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.

What's included with the tour?

Your local guide, mask, snorkel, wetsuit, kayak or SUP, paddle, and U.S. Coast Guard-approved life vest are included.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

You do not need to be a strong swimmer. You should be comfortable entering the water with the supplied flotation and following the guide. Tell us about non-swimmers before booking so we can prepare.

Is there a minimum age?

Families are welcome, and there is no fixed minimum participant age. Guests must be 18 to rent independently. A parent or guardian decides whether a younger participant can handle their own kayak and take part in the guided swim.

Does the tour go to Three Sisters Springs?

Yes. Every tour heads to the Three Sisters Springs area. When the Crystal River water-temperature reading falls below 62.7°F, federal managers close interior spring access and the guided swim continues outside the springs in the surrounding Three Sisters area.

Do tour guests need to watch Manatee Manners?

Yes. Please watch Manatee Manners before arriving when possible. Guests who have not watched it may complete it during check-in before the group leaves the dock.

Can I bring my pet on the tour?

No. Pets are not permitted on this guided swim tour.

Is there a minimum or maximum group size?

Solo travelers, families, and groups can book, with no fixed minimum or maximum group size. Available spaces depend on the guide schedule and equipment for your date.

How far ahead should I book?

Book winter Manatee Swim Tour dates as early as you can because visitors often plan their Crystal River trip months ahead. For warm-season travel, choose the Eco Swim Tour for your date.
