Where the Manatees Gather

Every winter, when the Gulf drops below about 68°F, manatees move into the 72°F springs of Kings Bay. Manatee season runs November 15 through March 31, and the coldest weeks bring the biggest gatherings. Our dock sits on the canal about ten sheltered minutes from Three Sisters Springs, with no open-bay crossing on the way.

Manatees are wild. Nobody can honestly guarantee a sighting, and we won't. What we can promise is the shortest, calmest route to where they gather, and guides who know the rules and the water.

Swim With Manatees the Right Way

Every guest watches Manatee Manners before going on the water. We practice passive observation: float calmly, let the manatee choose the distance, never chase, touch or corner, and never enter a posted sanctuary. During season, paddlecraft stay outside the Three Sisters interior; below a 62.7°F reading, swims continue in the surrounding Three Sisters area. Refuge rules and posted signs are the final word on any day.

Manatee Tour FAQs

When is the best time to see manatees in Crystal River?

November 15–March 31 (manatee season), especially right after cold fronts, when the Gulf cools and manatees crowd the warm springs. Mornings are usually calmest.

Can you swim with manatees in Crystal River?

Yes. Crystal River is one of the few places where swimming near wild manatees is legal under passive-observation rules. Our Manatee Swim Tour and Manatee Boat Swim include all gear and an in-water guide.

Can I kayak with manatees in Crystal River?

Yes. The Manatee Swim Tour and Clear Kayak Tour both paddle from our dock toward Three Sisters Springs.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

No. The wetsuit and flotation keep you buoyant. You need to be comfortable getting in the water and following your guide.

Is a manatee sighting guaranteed?

No. They're wild animals. Winter gives the strongest odds.

What about April–November?

The same tours run as Eco Swim and Boat Eco Swim, with clear water, fish, birds and resident manatees.
